76 was a ridiculous trainwreck on launch. They genuinely thought that having a permanent-on mic is a revolutionary idea to connect people. You can imagine what happened: a ton of retards unaware of being on air running around and blasting the surroundings with the sounds of eating, burping, farting, broken mic static, cats, moms, kids, cars, TVs, arguments, construction sites.
Worse, there was a bug when you heard every player on the server when creating the character.
And even worse: players have been bitching about this for a while and Beth reluctantly backed down, but they made the permanent mic opt-out, instead of silencing it by default. Absolutely clueless.
I think that created a trauma and a fear of using the mic in 76.
