I'm ESL and I have a 9 in IELTS. I learned English only through Osmosis since I was around 13. I didn't know what words like "Vowel" or "syllable" or "adjective and so on mean until very recently, but I could communicate like a native and write long, sophisticated essays and understand classic English literature effortlessly. No one taught me. I reached fluency within only 3-4 years.
I've been learning Japanese recently and I think I will never be fluent in it. It's complexity is vast because of the Chinese characters. I plan on learning a 4th language once I finish reading RTK.
