There's one more connection between Nightmare and Marx: they're supposed to share the same arena. Quite fitting since both of their stories involve Dream Fountains.
NiDL changed it, but SSU stuck with the original. Marx's stage in Smash ditches the star patterns to look like a mix of the two backgrounds.
