- Sphene has no reason to tag with the Scions or even really leave Alexandria, especially not after the citizenry still wanting a queen will accept her for who she is, Endless or not
- Several red masked Ascians were left alive, the unsundered three weren't the only ones that matter, and Fandaniel enacting his own plans in Shadowbringers and Endwalker left plenty of wiggle room for the remaining sundered Ascians to enact their own plans
- Calyx had no means of directly killing you which left outsmarting you as the only realistic option for him, and his plan not being completely foolproof doesn't mean he was written badly
- Additionally, Calyx completely drips in references to Kuja from FFIX, who is a similar brand of character vis-a-vis being a cool and refined schemer who completely crumbles under pressure and panics when his plan isn't as flawless as he thought
