The only way something like that gets off the ground is if 4chan dies. We saw a preview of what would happen when 4chan dies a few months ago. Spoiler alert, but everyone will go to 8ch and the sh_rty. Both of those options are significantly worse than 4chan, so 4chan must survive. People were talking about IRC and XMPP as options. I don't have much experience with XMPP but I'd be open to it if that's where people went. The problem is you need these things set up before the main one dies, or else people get lost.
