I have worked with transgender people and had a friend growing up whose dad became transgender. The transgender people I have worked with have spent tens of thousands of dollars over the years trying to change their appearance, and still look mostly the same as they did before, but have done extreme harm to their reputations and personal lives. One spiraled into depression, stopped performing at work, and had to be fired. My friend's father brought extreme grief to his wife and children. His kids have deep emotional wounds from his selfish actions that robbed them of a father.

These are just anecdotes, but they're as valid as anyone saying, "I know someone trans and they seemed fine and it didn't hurt anyone." I don't have to hate transgender people, but its dishonest to claim that no harm is being done by them or to them.

Basically. It was when LGBT stuff was first starting to pick up. I went to a meetup and they started talking.
