If you already did the Waterside, you can actually get Hameln before Gretel because the final Mary Gun parts are placed in the middle of the Dorm, whereas they would be at the end of the Waterside after you get Rapunzel. The scenes for entering the Underground Cavern and fighting/recruiting Hameln involve Gretel regardless, so if you do this, Gretel just appears out of nowhere (because it wasn't possible to recruit Hameln before her in the original Vita version). Regardless, Hameln still has small bits of dialogue during the Dorm chapter and the following intermission if you recruit her. Just be aware that she's pretty strong and her main attack hits the whole party.
