>How does that work?
Takes the same idea as the one from the Bojack movie and applies it to the World Tournament. Prelims are out in the open as a bunch of big free-for-all matches that narrow things down to 16 fighters, who are given randomized matches. Those fighters end up sectioned off in their own massive special arenas with varied terrain (a flowery field, a dense forest, a wasteland with fake lava, a ruined cityscape, etc.), and when one fighter wins they are able to move to an adjacent area to face the next competitor. Gets interrupted by Bojack's gang, under the sway of Babidi; some of the competitors go off with Shin and Kibito, the others stay to fight Bojack's gang and keep them from targeting the audience. Once the day is saved, there's a final battle royale between the last four competitors willing to finish the Tournament.

Exploded in an attempt to deny Baby taking over his body, was willing to stay dead until the Dragon Balls got recharged rather than rush a revival, spent the year hanging out with those in otherworld. The Otherworld Tournament actually ended up leading into the Janemba movie content.

Nappa and Krillin, Raditz and Piccolo, Chiaotzu and the Quest's version of Android 19 (who looks like Heroes' Nico), Godzilla and Gamera, Sachie and Zarid (who've been part of the kids' friend group since the World Tournament), Ledgic and Nox, even Fu and his cousin (Beelzebub's daughter) show up as "mysterious masked warriors" (Fu's idea). Lot of them made for fun matches.

Yeah while some players really wanted to be there for that second Mifan Tag Tournament, I'm glad we were absent for it, especially given who the winners ended up being.

Doubly ironic, he bangs one of Tien's students in the Quest.
