Even if you feel some catharsis today you know that there are deranged people out there deriving enjoyment from the HD footage of him getting shot, and they are imagining themselves as the assassin, and they are imagining all the infamy they can get if they do the same
And there is no guarantee that their target is someone you consider valid
the first laws on murder were not on the act of murder itself, but limiting the retaliation to prevent blood feuds. deescalation is the only way. nobody is going to be intimidating into backing down at this point.
