Tim discussed on his channel what Arcanum 2, i.e. "Journey to the center of Arcanum" as they called it, was supposed to look like; Troika already started the prep work on it even before the first game shipped. Basically the main plot hook was supposed to be that Franklin Payne, the famous adventurer, designed a strange drilling machine with the purpose of exploring the mythical underworld of Arcanum. However, shortly after embarking on his journey, all contact with him was lost and he was never heard from again. The player would descend into the Earth through the tunnel his machine created, and discover a strange world of ancient lost civilizations, some magical, some technological. One big plot point was supposed to be a discovery of a previously unknown metal that allowed for creating items that combined aspects of both magick and technology, without any drawbacks or side-effects. The premise sounded cool enough, but I kinda disliked they wanted to execute the whole thing in first-person instead of top down.
