I've always considered powerful Deja Vu to be actual turning points in timelines, the more motif in the 'painting' the more pivotal the shift. I have no clue what is the universe or god's intention for dropping hints like that.

For this specific situation my feeling is that TPTB decided dropped a fuel tank on the flame that is uncertainty with the economy and physical safety. They want to orchestrate events (deliberately or not) that will lead to the creation and maintenance of outraged culturewar NPCs and chuds to give more power the digital surveillance state agenda.
