Yes, the Aztecs were assholes. So were the Comanche for that matter. But tribes like the Comanche and Lakota really only became powerful with the arrival of the horse. Which they used basically like the Mongols to claim territory and to terrorize Europeans who were themselves trying to conquer the land using terror.
