The only chess player in history who physically and mentally intimidated people by his mere presence and talent was Bobby Fischer, ever since he was a child and beating grown men at the local chess clubs.
When Fischer was throwing an autistic hissy-fit over in the Soviet Union and threatening not to play at all, everyone (including Spassky and the Soviet teams) knew that it wouldn't mean anything for them to claim victory in this way simply because EVERYONE knew Fischer was by far the best chess player currently playing. He legitimately wanted to leave and say "i would've won but idc," and everyone knew he would be right lol.
