I love Virtual Hydlide

It's one of those games that's SO bad, it almost transcends into good. It's art.

Imagine taking a team of programmers and game designers from the 16bit era, and all of a sudden giving them ALL of the tools and updated effects from the new 32 bit powered systems and letting them go wild.

Virtual Hydlide isn't "Hey how can we use these new features to make our 16bit game concepts into something better?"

It's essentially "Hey let's just use ALL of these new effects and possibilities and make a game that never could have been done before!"

"Let's have a full 3d open world you can explore in any order you want!"

"Let's make it so that every game you play is completely different, endless replay!"

"Let's use motion capture and hyper realistic graphics on EVERYTHING."

"Let's put everything in there that fantasy fans love. Save the Princess, graveyards with skeles, haunted mansions, infested swamps, vampires, trees that attack you. EVERYTHING!"

It literally feels like a game that came from a wet dream of what 90's gamers thought would make the best game ever, and then it was hastily thrown together with all the new tech and released.

They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.

I love it.
