Slavery is a uniquely complex phenomenon, along with shit like war, religion or technological advancements, wherein the moral framework of them can be obscene, ignorant and destructive, HOWEVER they did achieve certain significant results.
Environmentalists piss and moan about fossil fuels, but if we never used them and didn't choke the planet in smoke and all kinds of other toxic shit, most of us would still be living in huts with rotting teeth, wiping our asses with our bare hands. Exploitation breeds innovation, suffering leads to advancement.
HOWEVER. We are at an unprecedented point in history where we actually have the capacity to foster a global society where everyone could get their basic needs met. But that's not a profitable endeavor, so people in charge (politicians, moneymen and corpos) keep inventing shit so that the first world gravy train lasts as long as humanly possible - through the sustained suffering of millions, somewhere on the other side of the globe.
