My dad has watched hundreds, perhaps thousands of episodes of family sitcoms over six decades of his life. Watched many other shows like Star Trek, the Andy Griffith Show, family dramas, family films, and much more. Just thousands and thousands of hours of programming.
Most always any of this programming has a message of how people should communicate more, be more open minded, tolerant, or work for the greater good. How husbands and wives should work together and listen more closely to each other or put themselves in the other's place. Many, many morality tales of science fiction shows and family dramas.
What has he learned from all of this? Absolutely nothing. He's still just a dumb oaf asshole. Literally all of it flew right over his head. He sat there for ten thousand hours, decades of his life and thought "none of that applies to me".
