It never was a bad art style. The similarities were overblown and just became a proxy for things people didn't like in comics and cartoons from like 2014-2020. Any reasonable critique of style or even the animation industry just gets boiled down to a few buzzwords (CalArts, hipster, Tumblr, beanmouth, millennial, zoomer, etc.).
I will say, though, it was kinda funny when anons and industry professionals were duking it out. I'll never forget the Thundercats Roar showdown, the CalArts redesigns, and the DeCalArts posting.
