Saiyan genes is the reason Goku got to where he's at, Vegeta too. That's why Saiyans are conveniently the only race in the world of DB with a transformation strong enough to fight back ancient demons like Majin Buu. Even if Goku was a shitter by his race's standards, that still makes him far above 99.9% of Earth and the universe at large seeing as how most races are weak except for a few anomalies now and then. He also still has a lot of room to improve with the whole Saiyans not having a ceiling gimmick.

Tien Shin Han literally puts in more effort than anyone who isn't named Goku and Vegeta and he will never ever catch up with them. Why? Because he's not a Saiyan.

An ancient godly transformation exclusive to the Saiyans found on a Namekian tome for some reason (SSJ God) and a wise old man pulling their unlimited potential out of them (happens twice to Gohan). Anything that lets a character catch up cheaply has a lot more relevancy than training. I mostly talk about zenkai and rage boosts, which are just excuses to make their numbers bigger so they can keep up with the next big bad.
