I used to specifically like only Forgotten Realms, which of course now has become the default DnD lore, but since starting to play WOTR I've grown to appreciate the psychotically unhinged setting of Pathfinder much more. Any theme somehow goes, and I think ultimately that's a better basis or canvas for any CRPG than something that autistically obsesses about every detail and lore of earlier iterations and its established characters (especially when that lore was basically just shitty fan fic level writing about gay good drow elf Drizzt and gandalf clone Elminster).

Kingmaker and WOTR are fantastic adaptations of the P&P modules, but Pathfinder as a whole is the ultimate kitchen sink setting. You have barbarians, vampires, aliens, robots, Cthulhu and Rasputin all living in the same world. It's very silly on a macro level and I understand why it turns people off.
I always found the DOS games mechanically very fun to play, but the story and setting of them are very flavourless, and it tainted my enjoyment of them in the final stages of the games when I was steamrolling everything without much of a challenge and the story wasnt keeping me interested. It's Larian's flagship IP though, so I understand why they keep making games in that setting, especially DOS1 and 2 sold so well.

Sad, I liked Pathfinder, then again my only exposure to Pathfinder was from their games, but I would have loved to see more of this world.
