I used to think it was only British and Russians that liked it, but I think Americans have been talking about it more and more in recent years.

Tabletop are unknown here. They're mostly played by upper class people that can afford to leave work or casually leave the country to buy toys or figurines. They're heavily gatekept in general. No McDonald's worker here has a hobby like that.

I can't into pen and paper because I have no friends, but I legit don't see what's wrong with it judging by things like Kingmaker or WOTR. However much of a mess the rules are its infinitely more fun than modern D&D (or anything like it, like Divinity) which just strips away and streamlines everything until there's nothing left.

Used to play a lot as a kid, I had an army of Tom kings and beast men, played during 6th-8th edition until GW decided to kill it.

I tried to get back in the game again when The Old World came back, even made some games with Age of Sigmar and Spearhead but the new lore just feels too retarded and I don't know, it's just not the same anymore. I was feeling like an idiot that was wasting his Saturday night playing a tabletob game in a basement for 4 hours.

Kingmaker and WOTR are fantastic adaptations of the P&P modules, but Pathfinder as a whole is the ultimate kitchen sink setting. You have barbarians, vampires, aliens, robots, Cthulhu and Rasputin all living in the same world. It's very silly on a macro level and I understand why it turns people off.
I always found the DOS games mechanically very fun to play, but the story and setting of them are very flavourless, and it tainted my enjoyment of them in the final stages of the games when I was steamrolling everything without much of a challenge and the story wasnt keeping me interested. It's Larian's flagship IP though, so I understand why they keep making games in that setting, especially DOS1 and 2 sold so well.

Some 10 years ago we discussed hobbies during lunch at work. I mentioned I paint and play warhammer. Stacy started heckling me. While laughing she said her 12 year old brother used to collect them and that I was childish nerd etc. A lot of my colleagues were now laughing at me and later kept making fun of me. Honestly that experience sucked hard and I still think about it 10 years later. I'm still very into but I never mention it unless I know someone really well.

BTW Stacy's "hobby" was make up and drinking coffee at cafés.

I have a group I play WFRP 4e with, it's a blast but I wish I rolled a Dwarf instead of a human beggar, I like playing angry manlets. But Warhammer is not extremly popular outside of people who are already into tabletop games.

I'm pretty sure Australia has the highest Warhammer hobbyist density worldwide
GW just keeps on raising prices here and knowing that we get a significant markup compared to the UK makes me angry
I ordered a few times from the UK and it was so much cheaper even with shipping but GW forced independent retailers to not ship overseas
Anyway I recently got a 3D printer and I'm getting into Napoleonics, going to print out an Austrian army for 1809 assuming I don't fuck up the printing process

I haven't done any prints yet but from what I understand it's a massive pain in the ass, very messy and toxic
If you want to do it safely indoors you need a chamber, like a grow tent, an extraction fan and somewhere to vent it along with a respirator, goggles and gloves
I think for me the biggest problem was the lack of good sculpts available but there are scans of GW miniatures available

Prefer Battletech - the superior tabletop wargame
