Its just my go to distro i use on live usbs to test hardware. Coincidentally i also used it to check if the digitizer in my laptop would work before i bought it.

Try the open-tablet-driver. The only driver i see people install the way you do, which is straight from the manufacturer i assume because of the icon tray(no native driver does this btw), and its not really known for being stable.
You basically use whatever is in your distros repository and that's it. To be honest it should just work without you installing anything however. I have a gaomon and its immediately recognized in KDE. And before that was the case i used open-tablet-driver and it worked. But even when i had no drivers at all for it, osu lazer somehow still read the damn thing and worked. Maybe its the shitty DE ubuntu has by default that won't show you its working out of the box but tablet support is pretty good now. Its all handled through the wacom driver now i think which is really good and despite its name is not bound to wacom. Try kubuntu. I really don't see why it wouldn't work. By default linux should work with it and KDE has pretty deep integration with tablets. Don't install anything and just try your tablet in the live session.
