NTA but I think as far as Keighley's show goes (the votes are weighed 90% to the jury, which is made up of journos, and 10% fan votes) it's not that the game with the biggest impact wins, it's more that the only thing the journo voters care about is the impact. Whether they approve of the game that has the biggest impact is what determines if it gets GOTY or if it's snubbed. But their chief metric isn't quality, it's how much something took over social media. In most cases, they're happy to align with that. In the case of wukong, they obviously saw it as the game that chuds loved, the game that chuds were throwing in the faces of all the journos' friends in western dev, the game loved by chud youtubers that were exposing journos who were lying about Wukong's devs etc. So yes, the "impact" was still the determining factor in the way that vote went. It's similar to how the last of us part 2 was given nearly every award even though it's impact was entirely negative and everyone online hated it. The voters are OBSESSED with ONLY social media impact. that obsession can take a positive or negative turn, they can agree with the consensus or run counter to it, but they'll never be more concerned with any other metric besides the social media discourse.
In this sense, the Oscars are unironically infinitely better than the game awards. For years, they haven't given a shit about what film twitter or the awards prediction pundits or letterboxd accounts have to say. At all. They just do whatever the fuck they want to. You can hate their taste, you can think they're woke or cringe or whatever, that's fine. But they basically never give a fuck about what the online discourse has to say these days. They'll cuck spiderverse/demi moore/etc anyone just because they feel like it. And altho Josef fares is a very funny charismatic guy, this is why the game awards will always be infinitely more cucked and faggoty than the Oscars. Because it's just a twitter popularity award.
