Yeah, it's a less popular Marvel property, the genre in general isn't as big as it was pre-Endgame, and Disney as a studio lost its ability to make a film that isn't ludicrously expensive well over a decade ago to the point that they desperately need to fire a bunch of executives.
Pretty much everything the main studio makes these days has ridiculous budgets; a Haunted Mansion film shouldn't have a $150 million budget and a Fantastic Four film shouldn't have cost $200 million.
Especially when it's a franchise that has a tracj record of basically breaking even and that's with budgets that are like two-thirds of First Steps. It's like making a Lone Ranger film that was so expensive that it needed to set a box office record for the Western genre just to break even.
By the time all is said and done, with home video sales, this is going to be the most successful FF4 film even adjusted for inflation but it's still going to just break even at the box office.
