>So my question is, is it a fucking shithole or is it a paradise?
Here's the ultimate guide to exploreing Los Angeles, anons.
This will be safe and have a great time if you follow these three principles:
>from the coast to 5 miles inland is the demilitarized zones that you can explore freely and avoid trouble
>if you go 7 miles from the ocean inland, you have entered the PVP zone, go back to the coast
>Tourists shouldn't go east of the 110 freeway. East of 110 freeway == extra danger
Simple.
I live in the Los Angeles area. Not around down town or anything, but south of the Los Angeles air port. There's very nice areas where you can feel safe walking around and doing stuff.
If you have to go through an area that isn't near the coast and is 7miles inland from the ocean, then it's not a place you want to walk around and explore. Just be sure to stay in your car to get to point A to point B and not walk around, because you are likely entering the PVP zone where a higher rate of insane people live.
I'm generally not making this up too.
In fact, I wouldn't recommend parking your car in an area that looks like a bad area to you because by the time you notice it's a bad area, the standard deviation of IQ has likely already dropped to levels that puts you or your property in danger.

Also, pretty much all the neighborhoods you see East of the 110 freeway in the LA area are extra bad in proportion to how far they are from the coast. This applies from the top of the 110 freeway in Los Angeles all the way to the bottom of the 110 freeway.
That's a good rule of thumb. Avoid places in the East vicinity of the 110 freeway because they are generally very bad or the worst parts of LA.
But if you look at the ocean on a map and just imagine a 5 mile demilitarized zone in your head from the ocean, then you will avoid the vast majority of trouble and be able to explore around comfortably! (Venice and Santa Monica have some issues, but still not as bad).
