>modern shows just don't cut it because times have changed
I love old shows too, makes sense because that's what I grew up with and enjoyed when I first got into the hobby. 2000s series is what I consider the baseline, the ideal. Things just seem to have gotten worse over time from my point of view. Yeah some people give the whole "don't cling to the past" deal, but I don't care, it works for me. There are more than enough 90s, 2000s, and 2010s shows and series to last me decades. I don't need to bother with new anime when I still have so many older shows on my backlog that just vibe with me better. It's my "era" and I'll stick with it. The world might've changed, but that's why new shows don't work with me the same way. The new series are for new people, I need series for me.

Glad to hear it. The PS2 really has a monster library in regards to 2000s era anime series that many sleep on because the games never made it to the west.
There's visual novels and spinoff games for
- Lucky Star
- Rozen Maiden
- DearS (same artist as Rozen Maiden)
- Galaxy Angel
- Di Gi Charat
- Amagami
- Aria
- Clannad
- Kanon
etc
Not even including all the games that don't have their own anime. I could go on all day, just look at the list on VNDB. The games are cheap as well. I like using physical games too. You can buy a Japanese PS2 and replace the powersource for your country without even soldering anything, it's a really quick and easy mod. And if you are still learning Japanese, you can get a connection splitter to both your TV and computer, so you can see it on the TV screen and also have an automatic text hooker to translate everything on your computer screen. I also think it's neat to use a nintendo DS Japanese dictionary to look up words you don't know. It's easier than ever to play Japanese games these days. Even if you don't know anything, it's easier than you think once you get everything set up.
I'm glad I could convince you to check out the games.
