>All these tools are great in order to keep the powercreep in check
I disagree. They're completely bullshit even when used in that very situation you've just described. Any card that creates a situation in which the other player CANNOT play their deck is garbage.
Searching over and over has been the norm in Yugioh for like 20 years now. You can't just keep a card which says you can't search and not have it be cancer. Droll was created like 20 years ago, it is unfit for the modern day game. It's now such a core thing that most decks can't function without searching because that's part of their gameplay loop, it's how they were designed to be played.
Ban droll, create a new fair version. You can punish searching without floodgating it.
I have no issue with 1 for 1 handtraps like Ash, Imperm and the Dominus cards or big punishes like Nibiru. These are examples of good interaction.
Seeing that you're playing against Malice and dropping and dropping Lancea and having them be unable to play isn't conducive of good game design. It's a card that causes non-games and it basically wins the game on its own. I cannot fucking fathom how people can defend 1 card getting dropped from the hand and turning off an entire decks strategy as being 'necessary' or good for the game.
>So how would you solve this situation?
Remove the side deck (the great whore where all abominations and cancer preside)
Put a hard cap on the amount of damage you can deal in 1 turn so neither player can auto lose in 1 battle phase. Monsters are huge, it's too easy to put 8k damage on board and this is the only fix.
Time rules have already been fixed now, the only other problem is the coin flip and with the direction Konami went that can't be fixed vs the way I had in mind (though I still like their fix minus the lack of change to to the coin flip which I would have fixed by having the game be a Bo2 with no side deck and both players getting to choose their turn order in one of the games).
