The snake girl unfortunately ended up being a pretty empty villain and we never really got to know what she was even trying to do, as Makima later acknowledged that all the reasons given turned out to be complete BS.
It was dramatic though, with deaths and fakeout deaths. It just kind of comes off as "Lebowski" on subsequent reads.
Even Aki acknowleged that Himeno and Arai basically died over nothing.
