Probably bait, but I'll bite.
Do you know how cool it is for your setting to take place on the corpses of two massive titans? The 2nd game's setting where you're on the backs of massive kaiju, you know how cool that is?
It was that simple to describe the settings of 1 & 2, not convoluted. They're both insanely fantastical, with character designs to match, and they stand out almost to the point of being iconic; of course talking about 1 & 2.
They didn't fall for overly serious melodramatic tones and the atmospheric meme. Their plots also weren't as pretentious and were more upfront with their themes without insisting on them in a repetitious fashion.
