it's supposed to be a fun fluff thing that also explains a minor thing like barbers for stone people instead of just accepting the barber as a meta thing for gameplay reasons. ties the world together and whatnot. unfortunately with what we know of the vermin who now handle this game we are forever doubtful of the nature of their writing, even if it a piece of it might be a genuine bit of fun. just the mention of the gender from them makes you wonder if this is some politically obsessed golem trying to weave some agenda into a video game to affirm a certain rabid political group of their delusions.
...or the mention of gender is just like >>538413840 said and stone robot people just see gender as a cosmetic choice as a fun bit of world building. we just don't know where the fun ends and the brainworms begin with californian writers.

maybe it's my bias but I think nightborne might be the only non fucked elf choice in this game now purely from the fact that they have gotten nothing damaging to their lore since their creation. anything beyond that was just a rare mention about their leader getting to be associated with another leader that's slightly more relevant.
still salty they joined the horde in BFA, if any race deserved the dual faction shit it would've been them.

while the idea fits nu-blizzard the execution would take just a bit too much effort for their tastes. since illidan is coming back in TLT we can assume blizzard is going to pull "somehow, the burning legion returned" and reuse a bunch of demon models instead of designing some arathi armor for humans or whatever
