I've been thinking about it and as shitty as so many Predator installments get, they have successfully maintained part of their hype all these years because they're never fully revealed. We only ever see them in the context of their hunting LARP ritual, where they seem to have a very intentional goal to handicap themselves and try to get themselves killed. If a drunk redneck gets stomped to death by the deer he was hunting, that doesn't mean deer have now become the apex species.

I sorta like that, they might actually be gods beyond all human ability, and even after so many installments they've been humiliated much less than the Engineers. That the idea of a "war" with them is absurd because nothing can ever be more than an amusement for them. And of course they always get that antihero potential because as asshole as they can be, the "They really don't wanna fight things that can't fight back" rule has been baked in from the start.
