It's simple: WoW lost its identity.
The cinematics used to tell their own stories. As shit as BFA ended up, its cinematic was fantastic and had plenty of identity and storytelling in just 4 minutes

>Sylvanas is on the top of the parapets, signifying her position considering herself above the rest of the Horde
>She then joins the battle proper and even takes on her banshee form, reminding us of her history before being at the very frontlines, down with the troops, and screaming "for the Horde"
>Every aspect of her character is portrayed; her elitist self-view, her combat prowess and fucked up backstory, and ultimately her actual pride of leading the Horde (at least until they retconned that lol)
>Anduin is shown to be a somewhat competent warrior, leading the charge and fucking up some horde guys before he gets his shit pushed in
>He drops Shalamayne into the ground and summons the Light to heal his army, showing that he is understanding that he can't lead the Alliance by just trying to emulate his father when he is a very different person to Varian
>We see each race of the Alliance fighting distinctly, but working together effectively; the humans and draenei shield the dwarven riflemen, while Night Elves fire from afar and gnomes + dwarves operate machinery inside the siege towers
>We see Orcs, Taurens, and Trolls fighting side-by-side, showing their integration as a faction while the undead are still "outsiders"
>Saurfang is the first to action from the warcry, carrying the Horde flag, showing his leadership role in the Horde
Compare that to the Midnight trailer:

>The Blood Elves look like humans with big ears
>Nobody even knows who the fuck Liadrin was meant to be until her name is spoken
>Quel'Thalas army for some reason has no magic or archers or Horde presence
>Nobody knew who the fuck the random paladin backup was until Blizz told us
It's awful.
