"Canon" in the loosest possible sense. The same guy is writing the games and the comics and Sega has to approve every comic so yes, they're not embarassed enough by the comics to nix any crossovers like they were 20 years ago. This isn't really a compliment to IDW because it just kind of shows how toothless, plotless, and shallow it is that making it "canon" has zero major ramifications other than "maybe I'll get to jerk off to Surge in a real Sonic game".
