broke the balance of a cool medieval fantasy with a bit of eastern character design and tropes. went full animu, just take a glance at engage or how faggy 3 houses is. I will give awakening the credit of being the swan song of the series and throwing everything at the wall. awesome in theory, didnt end up so great looking back at it but the thought was cool.

>smaller role in engage compared to previous games
>engage is the best in gameplay compared to awakening/fates/mirage
huh.

appeal to the lowest common denominator and you'll get your money's worth but that doesn't mean the product is high quality, it just has the superficial features that dum dums like.

what the fuck is up with writers these days. in this baka world we live in this is somehow not the first time in a series I like had a writer/dev take terrible influence from his kid

I don't think the gacha mobile game has influence over the mainline stuff. we haven't had a gacha mechanic in outside of it. the self insert crap is dumb though. supports flesh out characters and expand the game's lore so it can serve a purpose, writers just need to focus more than just meandering dumb stuff like in engage supports or vague and empty mentions of a bigger world in 3houses. what sadly sells is waifufaggotry and settings that barely utilize the medieval fantasy background. the gacha shit is irrelevant since it's only in a single mobile game.

I think writing good characters through supports and flavor dialogue in maps is what makes people attached to their units, the romance can fit and uplift if added as just one of many side features. god please let us have engage gameplay and a setting that both makes sense and expanded upon ingame, 3houses almost had the right idea but fuck they just seemed to stop caring once they mention the existence of a place or event. so many nothing burgers in that game, don't conflate that with good writing
