Yinglong seems to represent the death of innocence from forces outside your control and never fully recovering from it, which is shown through the spears, mutilated body, and imagery of falling from the sky. This would also explain why both Hong Lu and Sinclair got it.
Hong Lu's version leans more into the acceptance and despair of never going back to what you were before, which ultimately cumulates to suicide. The EGO itself functions like a suicide bomb, but his corrosion sprite also has an intestine-like organ wrapped around his neck like a noose.
Sinclair's version of the EGO is more about the futility of trying to undo/ignore what happened to him. His full corrosion attack has him trying to fly back above the clouds, but before he can get there, he's impaled by dozens of spears and hits the ground so hard that his body breaks into pieces.
Not defending them skipping out on the Abno fight but that's my best interpretation.
