The Extreme Gear are faster than Sonic and Shadow. Shadow's Skate Gear are described as Air Skates, same as the regular ones. They also have additional powers like air boosting/air dashing. They do all the same things as Shadow's old shoes and more, that's why he needed to upgrade to them to compete.
