Didn't do that. Their ideology is inherently anti homosexual though. They aren't evil, a conservative, wealthy white straight male makes perfect sense, they are defending their own interests like everyone else.
What doesn't make sense is when a member of a minority joins the side that at best disapprove of said minority. It's a belief system in total opposition to your gayness, a pure example of cognitive dissonance.
I talk to conservatives aplenty, they have varying opinions on several issues but the one thing they have in common is opposition to one specific minority and scapegoating said minority as the root cause of all problems.
It's just that nowadays they focus more on their hate for immigrants more than gays, but to think they are sympathetic to gays is just blindness
