I find it a bit interesting that there's sort of a "lost" Sonic design. The one from 1998-2002 was Modern with Classic eyelids, and it basically got memoryholed. Sonic 4 could've used that design, but chose not to. I wonder if Sega was pondering making the post-Dreamcast design difference more major.
