My schizoid theory on this whole phenomena with younger people getting all up in arms over trivial meaningless bullshit is I blame Advertisers.
The top 113 domains on the internet account for 1/3 of all Internet traffic, with the top 20 domains being a majority of even that. In the pursuit of monetization these top websites almost always rely on advertising to stay afloat, meaning they have tied their existence to the behest of what advertisers deem acceptable.
Even more so when you consider that Google itself controls a 40% market share of all digital ad spending.
It's why every stupid ass website has so many content rules and will ban you for dumb stuff. Because it makes them look bad to their fucking advertiser overlords.
And search engines like google continue to funnel in crowds into a smaller and smaller number of websites each year, with their censored search results. The internet is a hell of a lot smaller today and it's a fucking walled garden to sell you shit you don't need.
This is the internet people my age grew up in. Their entire view of the Internet is dictated by moderation and advertiser friendly standards and considering how much of a huge part the Internet has on culture of an ever more online and isolated youth.
Is it any surprise that they have adopted these advertiser policies as common culture and social standards?
An advertiser would not like a guy sexting a 30 year old woman, that's brand risk.
Or in reference to younger users, IT GIVES ME THE ICKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
