in fairness to batman fans, for superman it's almost as bad (doomsday clock), for harley it makes even less sense (heroes in crisis), and for wonder woman it's not even based on sales. i also think the issue is more writing than intentional wank, batman authors constantly do the "batman vs mind controlled league" to basically crib Hush and Tower of Babel simultaneously, then because they're giant crossovers with the strongest characters they can't even write a creative upset.
