Depends if you have premium or not. Choosing "Join Any Faction" gives more exp but then you can't focus down Soviets.

Wait for the sales if you can. As far as premium squads, the M3 Halftrack is good. Guerrillas are good too. In-game for gold, the paratroopers are good since you can fit them into any BR. I like the medics and the premium Yak is a satisfying tank popper if you like planes. The Fedorov MG is strong too. Premium squads with scoped semis like the radio and sniper squads I find work well for me.
