Yeah the marketing around the game made me think it was overhyped XTREME BRO culture Spike TV slop. But it was pretty fun still on higher difficulty. OP posted the PSP game and that was a good platform for it I think. Mashing square for an entire game felt justifiable on a handheld.

Why were the 2000s so chill
You would think that 9/11, the housing bubble, a recession, PC culture and the corporate takeover of the internet would be enough to ruin things. Make them uncomfy.
But it was the opposite of that somehow. Nobody under 30 gave a shit about politics. Being deeply into politics or social justice or racism in a 2005 high-school was considered deeply uncool.
I almost feel guilty for getting to experience the last of a world that catered to the tastes and interests of young white men. Nobody was worried about fentanyl overdoses or trans rights.
They had a captive boomer audience binge watching cable news who could've easily been convinced to make a hard pivot to wokeism. But they didn't and I don't know why they didn't.
