I think people put too much stock into the immutable validity of quadrants in the first place. Moirails are an example, the fanon twist of it makes people think it just means 'two people who are really really good friends'. When really, it's a type of romance that's only necessitated by the fact that Alternia is a total shithole that churns out violently antisocial, superpowered alien teenagers that need to be pacified whenever they're not genociding other species, or else the whole empire would implode on itself.
