>Lancelot was some French Noble’s OC.
You people always act and talk as if these classic legends and myths, were the equivalent to cheap marvel comics, or cheap shueisha manga.
Listen here you cultural illiterate, myths and legends varied according to time and place, which is why myths and legends will differ one from another.
Lancelot is some OC has to be one of the dumbest opinions that is constantly posted on this site, every single time there's a discussion of Arthurian myths, be here or on /lit/ there's always some dude repeating this.
By that logic Mordred/Medraut/Modredus is not the son of Arthur, he's some knight that betrayed Arthur, or some background character. The real enemy of Arthur is Malagant.
Myths and legends are always cultivated differently by region and era, which is why these myths will change. Arthurian myths are inspired by older myths of the welsh, irish, romans and old english people.
This continue to be with all stories, including chivalric, take for example the presence and role of Morgana in the Charlemagne Cycle.
You can like or not like certain characters for being too foreign, just like Tolkien didn't liked more recent Arthurian legends because he considered they weren't fully english. But he would never say something like Lancelot is an OC.
Chretien de Troyes didn't invent the genre of chivalric romance but his works are where they were really perfected and what popularized the genre throughout Europe.
