>Because they fucking are. There's a reason you have massive levels of overlap of the interests of Nazis and Communists for just about any time period that isn't 1941-1945
Another thing that happens in warfare is mimesis. Enemies come to resemble each other. If you've seen recent images of the Taliban, they try to look like Western special forces operators now, while there was a whole trend of American special ops guys growing their beards out to blend in a bit better while in Afghanistan, and that spread and became fashionable with American men. The Nazis radicalized during the war with purges and the like, while the Soviet Army reintroduced shoulder boards to their officers and engaged in ethnic cleansing.

Another disturbing thing is that you can find a similar psychology among people who really get into Stalin and Hitler even if in their own minds they think they're the total opposites. It's like the anon who is always posting about Eurasian chads. He could be a Nazi but for whatever reason he finds communism to be a more attractive vessel for exhibiting those emotions around power worship and working out sadomasochistic impulses inside this basement of bad ideas of a website. There are people who will become attracted to these ideologies the more they view them as basically just cults of power that are good at inflicting cruelty and humiliation for their own sake. That's very much the point.

The other twist is they don't care if you're upset about it, because they're successful. So usually when I see a good critique of it, it's more Freudian or will try to mirror it back:
