You're spending time and resources on a sandbox that the player is meant to skip over most of.
It's why those indie Sonic-likes never caught on, look up the "good" gameplay of something like Penny's Big Breakway, it's just players literally flying over the actual platforms. It LOOKS cool, but nobody except speedrun autists actually wants to play that.
