I've got these thoughts when I was interviewing people to work as developer with me. It's not uncommon to find incompetent devs with 5-10 years or experience, while the most talented ones I knew and the ones that composes my team currently have less than 5 on average.
From my perspective, it doesn't seem like a matter of talent, but of education instead.
