If Konami could find a way for PSCT to remove the HOPT line and any Special Summon OPT lines, it would cut down on so much text.
Much like "during either player's turn" became "Quick Effect" in terminology, they just need to come up with a term that means "You can only use this card effect of this card's name once per turn" and use it.
>but what about "You can only activate"?
Augment the term and explain it in the rules.
>but what about "You can only use 1 of the following, and only once that turn"
Augment the effect layout to replicate the ruling. For example, if "HOPT" was the tag they made, you could do it like
>[HOPT] You can use 1 of the following effects.
which replicates the functionality exactly.
There is literally no downside to this shit. It just saves space which means less reading which means quicker understanding.
Pic related is my go through of the text, shortening it
>a "Blackwing" monster, other than "Blackwing - Vata the Emblem of Wandering" -> another named "Blackwing" monster
>"You can only Special Summon "Blackwing - Vata the Emblem of Wandering" once per turn this way" -> [Special HOPT] tag at the start of the effect
>"sent equal exactly 8" -> "sent equal 8"
>"also you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except DARK monsters" -> "also you cannot Special Summon non-DARK monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn."
>"You can only use this effect of "Blackwing - Vata the Emblem of Wandering" once per turn." -> [HOPT] tag at the start of the effect.
A 32.5% decrease in character count between the old text and my new version.
