My original psych profile of the suspect would fit with this narrative scorned smart dude crown laughing at him and he's a psychopath couldn't stop thinking about the crown laughing at him. So he obsesses with Kirk purchases the rifle probably from a gun show and even may put trans or some other stuff on it to throw off the trail very arrogant thinks he can actually get away with it. Very meticulously planned out.
