I've heard some things and I know some things. I'll leave it at that. From what I can personally gather (from piecing together channels of information) :

One of theories is that we are dealing with AI/probes of a civilization that might already be long gone.

another one is that 3I/ATLAS might be them pressing the reset button on us

yet another one is that 3I/ATLAS is a completely different alien civilization to the one we have here already (if not multiple) as the tech would not match up. At least from what we know.
