its a culturally ingrained tradition. aztec religion was 1000 times more insane and comic book villain tier shit and yet it was a very deeply ingrained traition, and not just to the aztecs but across the americas. why did anyone in the americas tolerate the centuries of human sacrifice? because they genuinely believed in these things for one, and they didnt really know any other way.
